During a recent promotional tour in London, acclaimed actor Timothée Chalamet was tasked with compiling his personal list of five all-time great Britons.

"The F1 champion, David and Victoria," he stated, mentioning the seven-time Formula One champion and the famous couple.

His list took an unexpected turn with the selection of London-based rapper Fakemink, sparking questions about a rumored link with anonymous Liverpool artist EsDeeKid. To these queries, Chalamet simply replied, "No comment."

Yet, it was his ultimate selection that came totally as a surprise. After a long pause, he announced: "Susan Boyle."

It turns out, one of the biggest movie stars on the planet is a open admirer of the Scottish former Britain's Got Talent sensation, who went on to two US number one albums.

"She envisioned more than all of us," he stated without any hint of irony. "Who wasn't moved by that?" he said, referencing the iconic 2009 video of Boyle performing I Dreamed A Dream.

The Promotion Behind the List

The motivation for naming these icons is part of a creative promotional effort for his upcoming 1950s ping-pong film, Marty Supreme.

For the last few weeks, Chalamet has been awarding jackets bearing the film's title to personalities he deems to be "exceptional."

Honourees previously have included swimmer Michael Phelps, NFL icon Tom Brady, and football prodigy Lamine Yamal.

About His Roles

In Marty Supreme, Chalamet embodies Marty Mauser, a loosely-based version of real-life table tennis star Marty Reisman. The character exhibits questionable ethics, executing a heist and threatening a marriage.

"You know, when you're in your youth, you're an naive," he said with a laugh. "The film, in large part, is about making mistakes in your young adulthood."

His frenetically entertaining performance has already secured Best Actor nominations at the major awards, creating a potential Oscar race with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Pursuit of Greatness

Chalamet's belief was clear earlier this year when, while collecting a SAG Award, he stated his pursuit of greatness, citing inspirations like Daniel Day-Lewis and Viola Davis.

When asked about the origin of this confidence, he noted: "Honestly, it comes and goes. And I feel like that's what keeps me on my toes... It's a never-ending process."

Looking Back

As he approaches 30, Chalamet looks back on a period that included blockbuster roles in films like Dune and Wonka.

"It's been incredible. I feel like I'm existing in a dream," he remarked with a huge smile.

His commitment is notable: five years of guitar for A Complete Unknown, and years of training of table tennis for his latest role.

"I think the obligation... is that it appears authentic on screen," he explained.

The Big Screen

At a time when streaming giants are consolidating the industry, Marty Supreme is an original film getting a big-screen release.

"I do think cinemas will survive and thrive," Chalamet asserted. "The aim... is... to present this art form and deliver it to people."

He argues that films like his can play a part in saving the movie-going tradition.

"It is an original film at a time where a lot of original films are uncommon... I've never been more confident in saying, 'Hey, if you make the effort to see this movie, you won't be let down.'"

Nearing 30, Timothée Chalamet appears more than ready to channel the spirit of his unexpected pick, Susan Boyle, and aim for greatness.

Marty Supreme is scheduled for release on the day after Christmas.
