The Israeli government has stated that it has authorized a Hamas official to enter zones in the Gaza Strip controlled by the Israeli military to support Red Cross and Egyptian personnel in recovering the remains of over a dozen remaining deceased captives.

“The Red Cross, Cairo's technical experts, and a Hamas official have been permitted to move into beyond Israeli military lines in Gaza under Israeli military monitoring,” a government spokeswoman told an official update.

The spokesperson added that Cairo's personnel would introduce additional tools, such as “tractor-type vehicles”.

Israeli officials allege the Palestinian faction of failing to uphold the two-week-old peace arrangement as it has handed over a mere 15 of the twenty-eight remains of captives it had retained.

The faction asserts it is committed to the agreement mediated by the America, Egypt, Qatari officials and Turkey, but that it depends on support to recover remains hidden beneath the rubble resulting from an extended period of hostilities.
